My Favourite Finds at the Decorative Fair
A wonderful reminder that some of the best things in life are already in existence just waiting to be found...
I absolutely LOVE the Battersea Decorative Fair and managed to visit twice while it was on last week. It happens every quarter and is jam packed full of the countries finest antiques dealers displaying the best of their collections. You can find everything from large items of furniture, through to smaller decorative pieces, vintage clothing, textiles, books and ceramics but every year I end up gravitating towards the artwork which is always spectacular. Here are the best things I laid eyes on while I was rummaging…
Starting with this gorgeous Bamboo Chest (France c. 1960) which was in immaculate condition. The side unlocked and folded down to reveal lots of storage inside - it would make a perfect bar area in a living room or kitchen. Sold by Philip Thomas Design.
Head over heels for this joyous pendant light in crayon colours (Italy c.1958). It gave me Beata Heuman vibes with the little pin prick cut outs on the enamel - I just don’t have the space for it but I really hope someone snapped it up. Also sold by Philip Thomas Design.
Loved this tobacco leather-topped desk by Gallery Kiy. It was in fabulous condition and the front had lots of nooks for books, magazines or ornaments meaning it looks good from all sides.
An adorable little painting in muted blues and reds that I’m slightly regretting not buying. The tag reads ‘Hannes Loos, 1913-1987, Still Life 1950’ but I’m afraid I cant remember which stand this was on!
I’m on the hunt for a mirror and this Blond Wood Italian 1950’s Octagonal number really grabbed my attention. I love the shape and the combination of the pine with the darker wood embellishments, but what made it even better was the pairing of the mirror with the metal cutout wall-lights.
Just look at the detailing on those lights…! Both sold by The Moderns.
Tom Constantine had some really beautiful pieces of art on display this year including this cheeky pastel sketch of a girl in a pink hat.
Just as we were leaving I stopped at Don Kelly Books to request a peek inside this incredible copy of a ‘Matisse Jazz’ book. Whilst the cardboard cover sleeve had taken a few knocks, the book itself was immaculate and full of colourful artworks so I had to bring it home with me!
The fair has finished now but do reach out to the dealers tagged above if you’ve seen anything you love. The next decorative fair takes place 21-16 January 2025.
Thanks for reading, much love
